Unjournaling: Daily Writing Exercises that Are NOT Personal, NOT Introspective, NOT Boring!
Unjournaling: Daily Writing Exercises that Are NOT Personal, NOT Introspective, NOT Boring!

I have been using this Unjournaling book as bell work in my 9th and 10th grade classroom. The students have enjoyed the off the wall topics. I have heard several times, "I love this!" And this is coming from my reluctant students. I have added specifics to some of the assignments - like "you have to use three of your vocab words in your paragraph and highlight them." Or a specific type of sentence needs to be used. I find that this is enforcing the rest of their work and they are actually starting to use their vocab in their daily writing. Love the book and would highly recommend it!

If you are a young writer looking for quick, solid advice on how to develop your craft then this book is an excellent place to start. If you are an experienced writer with a couple professional publications under your belt but you still have your doubts about your ability to make money at the craft of fiction, then this book will add greatly to your toolbox. However, if you've taken a few college level creative writing classes, or if you've already got a novel on store shelves and are working on your second, it would better to keep on writing and leave this book for someone else.

An informative read for a new or still unpublished writer. An interesting perspective for an experienced writer.

Learn to eliminate excess verbiage, and continue learning the English language and other topics also.

There, I have saved you the price of this book. As others have pointed out, the writer is a coach or cheerleader and as such may be quite effective. However, I got the impression he was a bit of a hack himself, in a position for many years such that he was paid whether he wrote well or badly. I suspect those days are gone.

I lost most of my confidence in him gradually except when he began to enthuse about his "Webster's Dictionary" which I know as a generic term, i.e., nearly useless. There is no "Webster's" company, it has become a generic term for a large number of INFERIOR dictionaries. It is bad advice, and that is when I lost the big chunk of any remaining confidence in the value of his book.

Much of it would be useful, in lieu of any other instruction, for a high school student or college freshman. There are better books to recommend, however.

I really had high spectations on this software. I have to be honest it really does what it's advertised to do.

Yep, it will help you think of new ideas and new perspectives that you might have not thought of...but...well I guess I had a different idea on my mind of what it was.

My recomendation, try it first....It's a cool software but not for me, call me old school.

cheers!!!
