Haven't heard of David Weidman? Don't worry, you're not alone. But the reason has nothing to do with talent--think of all the artists whose work now hangs in museums who died both poor and obscure. Weidman was a Hanah-Barbara animator who later went out on his own, opening a framing store on La Cienega in Los Angeles were he also tried to hawk his great silk screen art. Sadly, people wanted his frames, but not his art (which fills the pages of this beautiful book). He stopped making silk screens, put his unsold inventory away, and turned to ceramics, which he still makes today in his home in Highland park. Fortunately for us, he now sells, in limited editions and quantities, much of what you will find replicated in this book. A master of the medium of silk screening, the creation of unique and innovative fonts, and color, Weidman's best is as good as anything you'll find. He's 88 years old and finally enjoying a trickle of long overdue recognition. This book should help make it a flood.
