Echoes of Forgotten Places
Echoes of Forgotten Places

$19.99
When I purchased the movie, I expected to see stunning photographs of many abandoned industrial sites with some info and history for each location. When I watched the movie, I was disappointed that most of the featured places are not named and no information is provided about them. A lot of narration is simply boring.
Although, the bonus movie "A symphony of industry" is very interesting, it describes the process of steel production and fabrication.

I guess, "Echoes of forgotten places" is ok to watch once, as long as you don't have unrealistically high expectations about it.
The Archaeology of Urban Landscapes: Explorations in Slumland (New Directions in Archaeology)
The Archaeology of Urban Landscapes: Explorations in Slumland (New Directions in Archaeology)

$45.00
This exciting collection on a new movement in urban archaeology investigates the historical archaeology of urban slums. The "stuff" that is dug up--broken dinner plates, nails and plaster samples--will not quickly find its way into museum collections. But, properly interpreted, it yields evidence of lives and communities that have left little in the way of written records. Twelve case studies define a new field, which will attract the attention of a range of students and scholars outside archaeology, in particular, historical sociologists and historians.

Invisible Frontier: Exploring the Tunnels, Ruins, and Rooftops of Hidden New York

This is a good, fast read and good if you are interested in the subject of urban hacking, etc. Some of the adventures and the exposition is thought provoking, but some of the opinions come a bit out of the blue. I would not recommend it as any kind of reference or academic resource, but would reccomend it for a nice quick read on the subject.

Ninjalicious left us something great here. This book is a fantastic introduction into the hobby/art of urban exploration. I wish more UrbExers had read this book. It really encourages friendly, respectful exploration and shows you how to explore in a way that is as safe as possible and leaves the site untouched for the next explorers. Whether you're a newbie thinking about exploring an old farm house or a seasoned urbexer, this book is definitely a must have.
