The product arrive; however it really is such a poor recording. That should have been noted. The recipient to whom I gave it complained that the comedian could hardly be heard that it sounded as if it were a recording that "someone had made with a personal recorder sitting at the back of a club." Really too bad. A note from the seller would have been helpful.

Hollywood Uncensored chronicles the history of how people have tried, with varying results, to get the motion picture industry to remove violence and $exuality from their films. The film has two co-hosts, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. and Peter Fonda. We also get extensive interview footage with several prominent people from the world of motion pictures including Martin Scorsese, Mamie Van Doren, Jane Russell, Eli Wallach and others. There is archival footage of Jayne Mansfield and Marilyn Monroe as well.

We first learn about how Hollywood would do just about anything they wanted to do despite the fact that former Postmaster General William Hays enacted a "morals code" as early as 1922. However, that code was not strictly enforced; and especially when in the late 1920s movie attendance fell sharply, the movie studios threw in anything and everything they could to get the public to come back to the cinemas. We see some footage of Barbara Stanwyck using herself to get ahead in a company; and we also see some very rare footage of Shirley Temple from a 1933 film entitled Polly Tix In Washington. Shirley isn't exactly playing the purest of little girls!

The public eventually wanted a little more "calm" in their movies. In fact, there was enough public support for The Catholic Church to organize a "Legion Of Decency" and Will Hays hired Joe Breen to personally approve all films before they could be shown in theaters.

We then see how in the 1950s and 1960s things loosened up again; but on the other hand there were even more changes that had and still have a huge impact on the motion picture industry.

Overall, Hollywood Uncensored is a good film that documents the rise and decline of the Hays Code. We see some of what came before the Hays code and after it as everyone, Hollywood producers and studios included, tried to control what Hollywood could put in their films. I highly recommend this film for people who are film aficionados; and people who enjoy how movies reflect the hearts and minds of the public will enjoy this documentary as well.

I just oredered this DVD and I couldn't have been more disappointed. The quality was horrible and this was less than I expected. I always like to read the reviews on things that I order if I am unfamiliar with them. It seems that majority of the time the good out weighed the bad but in this case they were wrong. It started out really slow and I just knew that the scenes would get more intense and more horrific. Out of 30 scenes only 5, at the most, were even worth watching. There were more car crashes in the scenes, involving people that actually took the risk, than anything. I would not recommend this DVD to anyone nor will I be purchasing anymore Banned from Television DVDs. Please don't waste your money on this garbage. You will be highly disappointed and wanting your money back. I know I do!
