![]() Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1) $10.99 First off, I want to explain that I am giving this two stars because the first time I read through it, I actually enjoyed it. But, I really wish that someone had told me what it was really about before I bought it. I was one of the few people who read this book before it became one of those "AHHHHHH!!! EAT, BREATHE, LIVE TWLIGHT!" things...which I dispise with a firey passion. Now, if you like to read stories just about what's on the surface, then please by all means buy this book. On the surface, it's a love story. It's about young Bella and Edward who can't be together because his immortality is holding them almost in two different worlds. But, nothing can stop true love, right? Right under the surface, though, it's a completely different story. It's about a vampire who's really 109 years old and who sparkles in the sun (SERIOUSLY?? What vampire SPARKLES in the sun? They're supposed to explode into smoke and dust. That's why they only come out at night. That's how it's been since Dracula was born...okay?). Oh, and the girl? Sniffling, whining, can't think for herself, falls in love with a guy within 30 pages of the story. Really. Not kidding. It goes from "Who's that guy sitting over there, being all dark and emo looking?" to "OMG I can't live without him!!! We must be together for all time!!!" within about a week of them meeting (and that's giving them a few extra days). Um...and what was with the whole "watching her as she sleeps" thing. Edward freakin sneaks into the Bella's bedroom while she's sleeping and just watches her. And when she discovers this, she's like, "Oh really? How neat." Me? I'd be like, "WTF? You sneak into my bedroom and watch me sleep? What kind of sick freak are you?" But, let's look at this book from the whole writing aspect. When I read Harry Potter (again, before it became one of those HP=oxygen things) the descriptions for the characters and places were so well done that when I went and saw the movies, everything looked exactly like I imagined them. Twlight? Nothing was like I imagined. Seriously. If you have read this book before, think about how you imgined places and people looking. Then, if you have seen the movie, compare your thoughts to what was actually chosen. I'll betcha it doesn't match up. That's the mark of a bad writer. When they don't give enough of a description to be able to actually see the places and people in your mind. Isn't that what reading a book is supposed to be about? Being able to go places without leaving your room? I could've written this book better than Stephanie Meyer did. So...in other words, I would not recommend reading this book. Don't give into the pressures of society. This will die out sooner or later and then it'll all be a bad memory. ![]() Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4) $22.99 This is going to be really quick: I never actually finished reading this book because I couldn't put myself through it. I realize that Stephanie Meyer was trying to write the series in such a way that it could "grow up" with the readers, kind of like Rowling did with Harry Potter, but it was waaaayyyy too fast and it was waaaaayyyy too big of a jump. It went from a book that 12-year-olds wouldn't even think twice to read, to a book that has blood spraying everywhere during...I'll leave that bit out. I made it half-way through and had to stop. Even my mom didn't finish it. I don't even know how to make this book sound good to someone who really wants to try it out. Just don't. That's all I have to say. |
