In the years that followed, he regularly smoked pot, did cocaine and ecstasy, and developed addictions to crystal meth and heroin. Even so, he felt like he would always be able to quit and put his life together whenever he needed to. It took a violent relapse one summer in California to convince him otherwise. In writing that is raw and honest, Nic spares no detail in telling us the compelling, heartbreaking, and true story of his relapse and the road to recovery. As we watch Nic plunge into the mental and physical depths of drug addiction, he paints a picture of a person at odds with his past, with his family, with his substances, and with himself. Nic Sheff is a recovering drug addict and alcoholic. Still in his early twenties, he continues to fight daily battles with his addictions. His writing has been published in Newsweek, Nerve, and the San Francisco Chronicle. Paul Michael Garcia received his classical training in theater from Southern Oregon University in Ashland, where he worked as an actor, director, and designer. The thought of needles makes me queasy so I wasnt sure if I would get through this book. For the first third of the book, while he is using, it was horribly dark, disturbing reading and I wondered if I even wanted to finish it. But I'm SO glad I did. I went from feeling like I could not relate to Nic and didn't like him in the beginning, but by the end, I held the book to my chest in tears and LOVED THIS GUY. I'm not an addict, but I am a human being and I could totally relate to so many of his insecurities and struggles. We are all such tender little beans inside. I was also stunned by his courage to write so honestly about his journey. Nic Sheff has got guts and I am so grateful to him for sharing his story. I have so much more compassion and understanding for addicts now. We humans are all so much more alike than we are different. Bless you, Nic Sheff, and keep writing! ![]() Tweak to Transform: Improving Teaching--A Practical Handbook for School Leaders (Leadership for Learning) $29.95 Improving teaching is the key to genuine and sustainable school improvement.
