 Mares Avanti TRE Full Foot Scuba Dive Fins - Snorkel Fins $48.40 First off, let me say that I've only used four different kinds of fins, and the other fins were all provided by hotels or the parks where I was snorkeling. These fins are very long, and wouldn't easily fit in my full size suitcase without folding them. I didn't want to have them bent for long periods of time so I ended up transporting them in my girlfriend's duffel bag. The fit was fairly snug, though perhaps a touch loose. My feet are just a little shy of US 12, and I was right in between sizes on the Mares size chart. I might have gone one size smaller and had a tighter fit. I had quite a bit of discomfort from getting sand inside the foot area, even a few grains makes you feel like the princess and the pea. I tried rapidly jiggling my feet to get the remaining sand out, and it worked somewhat. This was less of an issue on the open-backed fins that I used. The fins are nice and strong once you get the rhythm of them. There was one day that I decided not to bring them because of their size, and I fully regretted it. I had to use much shorter and flimsier fins that were provided by the park (Xel-Ha, Mayan Riviera) and they were terrible. I had to swim much harder to go anywhere and couldn't even begin to keep up with my girlfriend and her US Divers fins. Normally I can whiz past her in my Mares with a few kicks. I ended up cramping up in a wide stretch of open water and had to take a very long, slow paced trip back. I'll never do that again. I would definitely bring my Avantis even if they are a bit bulky to carry around. They're great for snorkeling if you can keep in mind that they're very long, so be careful not to damage the coral, and forget about walking forward in them.
