They miss some of the nuggets of information and wisdom that makes this series endure. Of course a book written in 1980 is going to reflect 2009's social and family units. That said though, the book contains some really good information on typical three year old behaviors and techniques for helping your child be the best three year old that they can be. There is a nice chapter on how a three year old thinks that a parent can use to formulate appropriate play for the age as well as find toys and activities that will help develop the three year olds mental, emotional and physical growth. Yes, you'll have to look beyond some dated language and examples, but focus on the characteristics of the three year old, techniques for managing them, and how they view the world and you'll find that this is a very helpful book. The Boy of the Three-Year Nap (Caldecott Honor Books) $6.95 This was one of my favorite books when I was a kid. I highly recommend it. |
