After reading this fine book, I am still mulling over the actions of the author. She was offered the world on a platter, and chose to reject love and make her own way in life. She would be a most interesting person to met and conversed with. After reading a biography about Mile Franklin, I believe she did the right thing.
A beautiful read.

The book still haunts me several days after reading. Assuming the story is more fact than fiction, I propose a motive for the author's actions.

The book may have been the 19 century coming out story, which went over peoples heads at the time, and even now. I believe the author was attracted to women. She mentioned several times how she detested the touch of a man, and turned down a marriage proposal that would be most woman's dream. She often lamented on how different she was from other girls. She never married.

I suspect the book was written a 100 years before its time, about a subject that was simply taboo.

Hey yall, sorry to have to write a low review, but I was very unhappy with the return policy of Impossible Discounts. I DO NOT BLAME THEM, I blame myself! I should have done my homework before purchasing, but trust, that this will not happen again! I got this color and it was first of all, yes, very inexpensive, but second of all, old, and third of all, it broke my skin out, and also discolored my hair! NEAT! When I bought it a few years back, the mixture was not super smelly or this liquified. When I opened up what I ordered, it was just odd. When I asked to return the items, ID rep told me that I had to pay for shipping. No bueno for me! So, luckily, I resold it to someone that could actually use it because there is no way I would use any more of this item again. Again, I do not wish to blame ID! I should have just checked it out better and I do not know if they realize how old some of the items are when they get them, so again, I do not want to blame anyone other than moi. Oh well, live and learn!
