Atrocious Retribution
Atrocious Retribution

$15.49
Strangulation hail from Sweden and on their debut full length album, Atrocious Retribution, Strangulation create a sound that incorporates some of the more brutal and technical aspects of American death metal with their own Swedish twist. The formula and vibe to this album makes me think of what would be the result of the original members of Carnage covering Cannibal Corpse's Tomb of the Mutilated album. The music isn't overly technical but it takes a more complex musical route then the traditional Stockholm style death metal blueprint, though it contains the darker, raw, hard hitting death metal vibe that Carnage created on their Dark Recollections album.

The music is generally mid paced death with some precision blasting that focuses more on intensity then speed. Their are flashes of speed but generally the music rolls on in thick, chunky waves of mid paced death. The production is excellent. The drums sound particularly robust, and minus the irritating snare tuning that lots of the more modern, technical death metal bands seem to opt for. Instead the snare hits are muscular, robust thuds with no annoying clicking, while the toms are well mixed and the bass drums sound suitably pummelling. The bass guitar is prehaps one of the most bruising aspects of the production. The bass playing is highly competent and its huge, rumbling prescence adds plenty of weight and power to the overall recording. The guitars come across as thick and chunky without sacrificing the overall clarity of the recording.

Atrocious Retribution is an easy listen, clocking in at under half and hour, the only disappointment is how quickly it all ends. The dark, chunky grooves and strong vocal performance add to the strength and enormous potential that Strangulation showcase throughout this solid, professional debut.

Add Strangulation to the growing list of top notch modern Swedish death metal bands shunning the cliches associated with how Swedish death metal should be played (Anata, Spawn of Possession, Insision, Visceral Bleeding, Aeon). Highly Recommended!!

Dr. Harfouche Grand Master of Shorite Ryu Tai Jutsu shows us one of the principle elements of his fighting approach in a real situation: strangulations. In this projet he shows us how strangulations must be preceded by strikes and takedowns with the hip or with the leg to position ourselves advantageously standing and on the ground; the takedowns through collar grips that once on the ground can become the grip in a strangulation technique; the combinations of holds and armlocks simultaneous to strangulation the quot;hanged strangulationquot; the quot;crucifix turn with the neckquot; and the feared quot;scissors of deathquot;. This is a video that will compliment the knowledge of traditional martial artists of all styles.
