The first paragraph of this book tells us straight what's to come: "I inherited my brother's life. Inherited his desk, his business, his gadgets, his enemies, his horses and his mistress. I inherited my brother's life, and it nearly killed me."

Steeplechase jockey Derek Franklin is an admirable guy, a straight shooter who wins a lot of races. We meet him on crutches with a shattered ankle. He's broken a lot of bones in his career, as jockeys do. He'll mend, but not before he gets hurt a lot worse.

When his brother Greville is killed in a freak accident, Derek has to look into his business (importing semi-precious gems) and figure out what to do about it. What he finds is a very successful company with a mysterious loan of 1.5 million U.S. dollars procured for buying diamonds. But everyone at the office assures him that his brother never dealt in diamonds, only gemstones. And there are no diamonds to be found anywhere.

Part of Greville's legacy is an amazing collection of electronic gadgets, some in plain sight, others hidden in secret places. Obsessed with security and fond of puzzles, Greville hasn't made it easy for Derek to find the missing diamonds.

The reader can look forward to plenty of action in this book: break-ins, shootings and a romantic encounter with a potentially lethal woman. At the same time, the book is a touching story of the relationship between two brothers.

I rarely write reviews about things but Liquid Keratin worked so well for me I felt compelled to share my results. It worked GREAT for me! My hair is so much more manageable and easy to style. I get lots of compliments and people ask what I did to my hair. I've always had wavy hair that was difficult to straighten and if I did get it nice, it would never stay that way. After using LK, I style once (blow dry it straight with round brush) and touch up a bit with a flat iron. I can sleep on it 3 nights and it looks nearly as good as the day I styled it, just a little flatter (which is fine since my hair is thick and full). It feels so healthy. And yes, I got 3 uses out of the bottle as well. I did have a problem with my second use and my hair turning color after using the flat iron, but the label does warn about that. Since then I don't use the flat iron as hot and I don't have a problem. It is important to use the right kind of shampoo and conditioner to keep the results (I use Burts Bees, which is less expensive). I wonder if some of the people who aren't having the best results may be using shampoo and other products that have the sulphate in them...almost everything I looked at had sulphate. I don't use hair spray and wonder if that may also affect the results negatively.
Straight?: True Stories of Unlikely Sexual Encounters Between Men
Straight?: True Stories of Unlikely Sexual Encounters Between Men

$13.95
I bought this book thinking that it was going to be a collection of well written, thought provoking, true stories of encounters between gay and straight men. What a mistake! It is pure porn and, in my opinion, most of the stories are fantasies rather than reality. On top of that, the stories are poorly written. It took me 10 minutes to read this book because I've read it all before. Total junk and a total waste of money. If I could've given this book 0 stars I would have.

How to Become a Straight-A Student: The Unconventional Strategies Real College Students Use to Score High While Studying Less

Overall I found this book to be incredibly unhelpful and a waste of time.

I suppose that if you struggled in high school and you never learned anything about studying this book would be worthwhile to you. It has a lot of basic, no-brainer tips that most college students should know.

I was highly disappointed with the fact that the author is extremely unrealistic about time. He outlines sophisticated ways of taking notes, writing, and studying yet he declares over and over that you won't spend much time on your homework. You should be able to skim almost everything and magically do these sophisticated, and what I see as time-consuming, techniques. If anything this lowered my sense of self-efficacy for a bit because I felt like something must be wrong with me if I "grind" through homework using techniques I devised in my own academic career that are similar to his. He must be blessed with an incredible memory or something to complete work so quickly!

Instead of reading this book I would recommend you read "Study Smarter Not Harder" by author Kevin Paul.
