![]() Still $12.98 It's been a dry spell for us BoDeans fans, but we have two recent reasons to be happy. First, there is the re-issue of "Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams" from Rhino, and then there was "Still." This 2008 release finds Sammy and Kurt back in fine form, their sublime harmonies melding like they have when we first heard them almost 25 years ago. With old friend/producer T-Bone Burnette back on the boards, "Still" is a striking return to the band's Waukesha roots. First off, there is the fine, fine "Pretty Angel," which feels like a line on the path from Burnette's Twenty Twenty to his work in making Robert Plant and Alison Krause sound rootsy enough to snag Grammies. The rougher sounds of The BoDeans' harmonies glide atop a crackerjack band (Including the always great Kenny Aronoff on drums) and the swelling chorus. It's the best song on the album, although "Wonder Wonder" and "Breathe" comes close. It's also good to hear the band pull out the stops on the rockin' "Lucille." While age and time may have smoothed the edges a bit ("Breathe" mines the topic of Fatherhood), The Bodeans are still sounding like they are finding their way. It makes "Still" a decent listen in their library and adds another feather to producer T-Bone Burnette's ever colorful cap. ![]() Still $15.98 This music is bouncing and flowing, dancing and thrilling. Yet...it is somewhat fluffy probably to the average christian looking for some deep christian music. It is really good, and I love to play it with my kids. It gets us moving, but that is about it. I love to groove to it, but if I need a deep inspirational song to move me through a bad day..I am not sure this would be the cd to play. ![]() Still $8.99 This music is bouncing and flowing, dancing and thrilling. This is not true, it is available under Specialty Items in the Merch section of the site for only $9.99 plus shipping and handling. It's ridiculous that venders here are jacking up the price because it's supposedly "rare". Now if it were one of the original prints from the initial release along with AATCHB and there were PROOF of some sort that this is the case-then I suppose it would be worth the extra money for collector's value. As it stands, I don't recommend purchasing it here unless it's equal to or less than $9.99. The album itself is great-in addition to excellent "reduced" and more acoustic-sounding versions of "Something I Can Never Have", "The Becoming", "The Day The Whole World Went Away" and "The Fragile", you get original instrumentals "Adrift and at Peace", "Gone Still", "The Persistence of Loss" and "Leaving Hope". The highlight I must say, however, is the completely original track "And All That Could Have Been", a song I'm really really hoping that NIN will play for the very first time during their summer American tour. It's just a wonderful song and I can't really find the words right now to describe it so I'll just say it's awesome and worth the price of the entire CD (the $9.99 + shipping price, anyway). That's not to say the other eight songs pale in comparison, however-I just find AATCHB to be the highlight because it's an original song and it has lyrical elements in it and of course it's just a pretty good song. |
