 Sacred Steel $24.99 Sacred Steel is a wonderful documentary that chronicles the use of the steel guitar (lap guitar) in the House of God Churches. The video traces the humble starts of the tradition (most of the churches were too poor to afford an organ) to the impressive collection of players that now exist in churches all over America. Whether you like jazz, blues, rock, or whatever, you will LOVE this music. This music is also interesting because it has a purpose...it is praise music. The church believes that this music will give you a glimpse of what heaven is like, and having heard this music alot...Heaven is gonna be pretty amazing !! I highly recommend checking out the Campbell Brothers , who , along with their mentor,Calvin Cooke, are the most popular group to break out of the Church. Their performances are not to be missed. In this case it is Hawaiian steel guitar as opposed to steel guitar in general. He has a deep understanding and affection for the music. He gets it. And he knows how to express it and teach it. Well worth the money. |
