![]() A Once-And-Coming Spirit at Pentecost: Essays on the Liturgical Readings Between Easter and Pentecost, Taken from the Acts of the Apostles and from $6.95 Raymond Brown has a firm understanding of the progress of the early church from being predominatly a sect within Judaism to a universal church. He is able to perceive that the rosy colour presented by the author of Acts, is not necesaarily historically true. In combining Acts with the readings fromn John's Gospel for the Easter season he is able to present the reader with many issues that faced ther early church, especially in those thatg eventually resulted in Christians being forced out of the synagogues. ![]() Once $2.99 I was familiar with the music of Glen Hansard before (with The Frames) and could largely take it or leave it, but the film is outstanding-- it's so true, raw, and pure in its storytelling, avoiding the classic American boy-meets-girl cliches (y'know, because it's not an American film). Irglova is the definition of adorability, and Hansard's new material (and reworked Frames material) is so soulful and heartfelt, I had to rethink my prior opinions. It's just a really great film that does not come along too often (no, I'm not going to say something like "once in a lifetime"). ![]() Once $9.99 When I saw that this movie was described as a musical I was not expecting to enjoy it. But because it was filmed in Dublin I agreed to watch it with my wife. Never judge a book by its cover, nor a DVD by the blurb written on the sleeve. This movie scales heights that are rarely found in any musical. Not only is it a plausible unconsummated love story but the songs and their music will delight even the hardest heart. I went out and bought the Collector's Edition soundtrack the next day. Don't miss out on this - buy it, rent it, steal it if you must, but see it and listen to it. Be amazed. |
