![]() South: The Last Antarctic Expedition of Shackleton and the Endurance (The Explorers Club Classic) $19.95 The journal format in which the book was written was difficult to read and enjoy. I did finish reading it but it was an effort. ![]() South - Ernest Shackleton and the Endurance Expedition $29.99 The Bottom Line: South's authentic footage of Shackleton's Transantartic expedition will appeal to enthusiasts of polar exploration, but it's not a very accomplished documentary and the last 20 minutes of nature footage are really pretty boring: you should only see this if you've already seen the documentary "The Endurance" or read the book and want more. ![]() South $14.99 The simple, gentle message of this book is a lesson for all. An act of kindness, in its simplicity, brings harmony. I bought this book for a 4 year old girl. She became attached to the book after we checked it out from the library. The only way she "allowed" the book to be returned was with a promise she could have her own copy. I bought a second copy for myself. I too had grown attached to its beauty, ![]() South: The Endurance Expedition (Penguin Classics) $14.00 It is tough to get through this book. Only the first half is about Shakleton's expedition. The rest amounts to a log of the Aurora crew that Shakleton relays second-hand. The Endurance expedition, itself, is quite a piece of history, but the book does a poor job of showing this. The writing is dry. Killing dogs, penguins and seals is a regular thing. Location and weather are reported on almost every page. He does give a good sense of the cold, however and the food supplies. |
