This book is really functional. It's just what I was looking for this fall to complement my weekly trips to the market, and every soup so far has been excellent.

The pickle soup seems weird, but it's hearty and definitely worth taking a chance on. I also made her special porcini mushroom soup-- made it for Thanksgiving for a small crowd, and it was a hit! The cauliflower bisque is creamy and comforting. This weekend I made the lentil lemon soup and split pea; they're both perfect to sustain me through exams. (I've made many others from the book, and I've got so many more soups to go through winter and into spring and summer...)

The recipes are easy to make, and they give me inspiration at the market. The soups taste good and are made from simple ingredients readily available. If you're a soup lover, this book is gold.

Let me say right here at the beginning that I have made only one soup from this cookbook. The recipe is Apple Soup with Crumbled Roquefort and Bacon. It is perfectly balanced, with the pureed soup being light and mildly sweet, and the garnish taking you to new heights of flavor (crumbled Stilton, butter, and bacon). If I find no other recipe in this cookbook as good as this one, I will feel the cost of the book was worth it. It is exquisite. So many soup cookbooks seem to have similar recipes to each other with minor changes in directions. This one seems different. I'm going to try Cauliflower Soup with Crispy Prosciutto and Parmesan next, or what about Pumpkin Soup with Toasted Walnuts and Rosemary! If you want the same old same old, this is not the cookbook for you. If your family uses Progresso as the gold standard, this is not the cookbook for you. If you are willing to try some new flavor pairings and go off the beaten path, you will love this cookbook. As others have said, the soups do take more time to prepare than the author suggests, but I'm guessing that is due to our not being professional chefs. There is a lot of love in this book and I can't wait to try my next recipe.

This is a good book for soups. It has a little commentary above each soup which enhances interest. Also helpful is the number of servings.

Have been collecting recipes and making soup for years. This is the BEST soup cookbook I have ever found. Great variety, easily accessible ingredients and wonderful photos & descriptive stories. My friend bought hers on the Cape and told us about it - four of us ordered one within a week's time. This would make a great holiday gift for anyone who enjoys good soup on a cold Winter day or even on a warm Summer day as there are cold soup and great salad recipes included too.....
