The Face of America: Annual Ritual. All across the country campus emotions reachalmost unbearable intensity as the day of the Big Game approaches. For that Big Game loyal rooters go all out in exhorting their champions with cheer and song; some gather about ritual fires such as this monstrous blaze. This pyre, sixty-six feet high even before it was lit, burned at College Station, Texas, for the greater glory of Texas A & M, on the night before last year's traditional Thanksgiving Day game with the University of Texas. Primed with 500 gallons of contaminated jet-plane fuel, the blaze at first roared like the wrath of Moloch. Then, prophetically, it sputtered low among the rain-soaked logs. Sure enough, next day the Texas Longhorns upset the Cadets, 9 - 7. But this is another year, time for another bonfire.
