 The Border Lord and the Lady (Border Chronicles) $15.00 I look forward to Bertrice Small's book and this was no disappointment. She has a way of bringing you to a different world.  The Captive Heart (Border Chronicles) $7.99 This has to be the worst book that I have ever read (and I majored in History and English). Bertrice Small and her work "The Captive Heart" is a disgrace to the genre of Historical Romance. I cannot believe that she has been writing for such a long time in the genre and has won awards! This book is not a romance novel at all, but rather poorly written pornography of the lowest order. This book is inundated with historical inaccuracies, the dialog and the vocabulary used by the characters is worse than that of a dirty sailor. Never have I heard the "f" word used so many times.... much less in 1460 England. The ending was horrible, killing off a 9 year old girl and then the parents name their third child after the dead one? How morbid and horrific! People who want a good romance novel that is true to the genre should stay away from any of Mrs. Small's work... she is certainly no Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, who would be rolling over in her grave if she knew that work of this kind was winning awards in the genre that she pioneered. |
