I loved the Triggers' earlier stuff -- some raw, snotty 7"s with great tunes like "Drink Gasoline" and such... but the debut LP has a bit more spit and polish to the sound that I think works to the group's detriment. While they still play the upbeat, catchy, female fronted late 70s LA/San Francisco rock'n'roll punk of thier earlier stuff (ala the Avengers or a female-fronted Weirdos), the production is just too good and takes the rough edges off their punk rock tunage. This may be a good thing to other people, sure, but what I liked most about the Triggers was the raw production, sort of a different turn from the more "big rock" sound some bands like this opt for. Still, the songs are good. But all in all, "Shoot Your Mouth Off" could have been a lot more energetic and raw and gained a star or two more from me. Maybe if I turn it up so loud I almost blow my speakers it'll sound better. Yeaaaah, maybe I'll try that.
