![]() The Secret $23.95 This book is a very short read...about 45 minutes. And I am glad i bought it used on ebay because it really is not worth its price. The book has very little useful information. The hype surrounding this book is comical at best. The author, who we know nothing about, suddenly inherets this book that tells her the secret to getting anything you want in life. Mainly by asking the universe, and waiting to receive it, all the while thinking positvely. If your still with me ill explain how this is such a dangerous book. I have nothing wrong with self help books. But people miss what they are about...self...help! What really sets the most successful people apart from every other Joe Smith is that they have such an intense desire to get whatever it is they want that they fully commit to getting it and work harder than anyone before them. Sure, they make a few mistakes, but they learn from them and become stronger. The Secret is what our society is so used to. Ask someone, like Jesus or the universe, to bring it to you and you shall receive. This creates spiritual laziness, that encompasses our whole life and makes us feel that we aren't strong or worthy enough to change our own situation. Sure thinking positvely is beneficial, and necessary to achieving your goal. But without work we get nothing. One quote in this book about money was to "think and act in a way as if you are already prosperous." Really?? Isn't that how we ended up in this financial crisis? Years of "thinking" we have enough money? I dont belive we should upset ourselves to where we end up sick over our situation, but this book offers nothing tangible. I do believe in the law of attraction. I do believe that our thinking is one of our greatest obstacles. But with proper mind/awareness training, mainly through meditation and psycology, we can understand ourselves better and become aware of what makes us suffer, be it our financial situation, relationship status, or general happiness. This book offers nothing that would REALLY develop that. ![]() A Lifetime of Secrets: A PostSecret Book $28.99 This is about the 4th iteration of Frank Warren's PostSecret project in published form. The mail art project gathers anonymous postcards confessing a broad range of secrets and here are put together loosely around the cycle of life, from childhood to old age. While most of the material is generally entertaining, there is a bit of a repetitive feel-good factor, and a pretentious vibe that feels a bit boring and somewhat predictable as one turns the pages. It is not necessarily that Warren's work has turned consciously deceiving but the process itself, if it ever was that spontaneous, feels a bit trite and fake. Postcards are quite elaborate, graphically sophisticated for the most part, and quite a few of the "secrets" aim to be domestically shocking, or personally disturbing, with some peppered mundane remarks, which are perhaps the most interesting as a social documentation. But after so many, it might be fair to ask to what extent senders were crafting a product that they knew was having quite a media exposure and if noticed enough would have a chance to appear in book form. Now, that artifice could also be interesting, but the volume does not dare to go there and seems to take, and offer, the postcards at face value, which at best is lazy and at worst manipulative. Peppered throughout are some interesting notes from Warren about how the project has developed, its feel-good factor and community outreach aspect. At this point that depth feels a bit shallow, although it makes for a mildly entertaining coffee-book. ![]() PostSecret: Extraordinary Confessions from Ordinary Lives $28.99 This book will make you think, feel and laugh. Enriches your life - seriously. ![]() The Secrets $26.95 I think is one of the best lesbian pictures I've ever seen, at least it has an interesting subjetct, not only "teen" matters. The only thing that I did'nt like is that my copy has no AUDIO so I had to read it instead of listening it, but the picture is so good that I did it. |
