I've been a fan of Pericardium for several years now. I'm lucky enough to live in the Bay Area and have seen them perform live many times. Their first album, "Apartheid of the Mind" was a strong entry from a group of young musicians. This album extends the promise of their craftsmanship, it's almost as if this is their first album. Think Elton John's "Empty Sky", and then the "Elton John" album. A promise, then wow! where did that come from? The album starts with the very Gilmourish 'Salutary', seducing us into a space where these young men are questioning where the world is going, off track for sure. Then, with no warning, we're led into the thrashing guitars and strong back-beat of 'A Hymn for Doves to the Rhythm of Hawks', then the album continues to build one track after another through a sonic adventure that blends the best of rock, prog and metal over the last 40 years. It's one of those albums you listen to, then just leave in your player and listen to again and again. Every listen reveals a new lyric, a new guitar lick, or you notice the very cool bass rythm. If you want the best of what the Bay Area has to offer, a dance through what's been and the promise of where things are going, then buy this album!
