Almost all the instruments and effects were acquired non-working by Ralph Karsten and have been repaired or otherwise doctored to meet the requirements of a proper analog freak-out. Instrument used includes the ARP 2600, 2-EML-101s, EML-200, Prophet V, Mellotron, EML 416 Sequencer, ARP sequencer and Korg Mono/Poly. Effects are mostly Mutron Bi-Phases and various reverb devices. Ralph Karsten has considerable background in electronics and music with 2 previous recordings featuring yet another device played. A Native American flute and is the only acoustic instrument among the machines. Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno and Klaus Schultz figure as major musical influences. Unlike much of the ambient material of the 90s and the 21st Century, there are no MIDI controls so as to avoid any possibility of the Giant Karoke Machine on stage. In other words, Ralph plays all the instruments. Many of the sounds used can only be made by the instruments used and digital synths fall well short of the mark. ROE alumni from AESMA DAEVA and GOD-AWFUL are lending their skills as guest guitars on a track to make the pot boil to a higher degree and make a new mark to another region of crossing over in extreme musical styles. ![]() Wycliffe and Death in a Salubrious Place (Wycliffe Series) $7.99 There was no doubt at all that the girl was dead. The front of her skull and her facial bones had been shattered like the shell of an egg. Even more shocking was the setting of the murder?an idyllic corner of the Scilly Isles, where violent crime is almost unknown. Angry and distressed, the villagers instinctively turn against the only stranger in their midst, teenage pop idol Vince Peters. But Superintendent Wycliffe has his doubts. Slowly, methodically, he begins to dig beneath the calm surface of the community?and soon uncovers a violent undercurrent of fear. |
