![]() Basic Sailing Skills, with Chesapeake Sailing School, Show Me Videos, Learn to Sail $29.95 This was a good basic sailing DVD. It covered most everthing. Only complaint was that it could've been a little longer. ![]() Fix It and Sail: Everything You Need to Know to Buy and Retore a Small Sailboat on a Shoestring $19.95 Okay, so this book IS a pretty good read. But rather than EVERYTHING you need to know, I found it more to be the authors process of buying his boat and restoring IT. He gives good information on restoration, as long as your boat has the same problem his did. I bought a 22' Catalina with an outboard motor for less than twice what he paid for his, and it only needed cosmetic repair. None of the problems my boat had were quite like his, and if the process was similar, I couldn't tell as a novice. So no, this is NOT everything you need to know. ![]() Fifty Places to Sail Before You Die: Sailing Experts Share the World's Greatest Destinations $24.95 We received this book as a gift after crossing the North Atlantic in our own boat. It was intended to inspire us to keep going, which we seriously plan to do. It's not intended as a sailing reference, yet it does keep the dream alive with places still on the list. What's interesting is how many of the places we've already ticked off. The brilliant aspect of this book is the choice of legendary sailors whose opinions were solicited. I only wish that I had thought of this concept. It would have been a great opportunity to meet all the folks who inspired the dream to shove off in the first place. |
