This is assuming your teenager is like many - he or she wants accurate, accessible and timely information, but doesn't want to get it from an "uncool" source (you, the well-meaning parent). They'll snag this and adopt it for their own. Mission accomplished!

I should emphasize the first part - as a parent, you owe it to yourself to read this cover to cover first. You will likely (as I did) learn a thing or two yourself; I wish this book had been around in the early 80s to answer the billion questions I had (and a few I didn't know I had, but should have).

That said, maybe you're fortunate enough to have the kind of relationship with your flesh and blood where you can comfortably sit down and talk to them about sex. Even better! This can serve as both the sourcebook you can look at together + the take away - everything you both need to know and discuss about sexuality and sexual health can be found here.

Regardless, you might want to consider buying a copy for each of you, so that when questions come up where referencing the book might be helpful, your kid needn't share "their" copy - this might make for a healthier sense of boundaries for the both of you (especially if they've bookmarked/highlighted certain parts) while maintaining a level playing field regarding the information itself.
