 Pee Wee & Jackie: Pee Wee Reese & Jackie Robinson $14.99 Mostly B&W footage of two class acts, Jackie & Pee Wee, and their almost mythic cast of characters. Nothing new here, same old footage, same old boring narration, but still worth seeing. Seeing how it was in that summer of 1947, does my soul good. Back when the only real democracy existed in a Brooklyn ball park, Ebbets Field, a micro-cosm of Democracy. Immigrants in the seats, Italians, Jews, Irish, Blacks and Hispanic, trying to assimilate to America, and those same ethic groups on the field as a team playing for their fans and for each other. No two players illustrate this better than Pee Wee and Jackie. This stuff is the poetry of the game, the "life" metaphor played out before our eyes. I'm not one to get too corny, but their story is almost like a morality tale, I get a little "misty" watching it, and it DOES make me feel proud to be a kid from Brooklyn, proud to be a baseball fan and proud to be an American. --- Lou Russo  The Orioles Encyclopedia: A Half Century of History and Highlights $55.00 My husband received this book as a gift, and I will tell you, if one needs to locate him, he can usually be found, (lately) seated on the sofa in our living room, poring over the contents of this beautiful book, which he tells me is also beautifully written and VERY comprehensive. As a youngster, he was a devoted Os fan, and is delighting in reliving Orioles history, just as he remembers it.  NFL: America's Game: 1967 Green Bay Packers $19.98 This is a DVD of a TV show that was broadcast on NFL Network. It contains the usual in-depth converage of the Ice Bowl and Super Bowl II, but what I enjoyed most is the footage of the regular season of the 1967 Green Bay Packers. That's what will make this DVD a valuable part of my collection and make me want to watch it again.  MLB Vintage World Series Films - Baltimore Orioles 1966, 1970 & 1983 $19.95 Wish the video was longer, which would allow more detail and video of each worlds series and maybe a review of each season. |
