![]() Resurrection $20.00 A very good video featuring N.T. Wright discussing what he has come to understand about the resurrection after many years of scholarly study. Wright has written an excellent 700 page volume on the resurrection, and this video hits the high points of his learning at the same time it takes the viewer on a tour of the sites in the holy land where the events occurred. The video is very beautifully done. Wright is no backwoods self-proclaimed voice of God. He is a scholar who has done plenty of study and research, and he has written many acclaimed books on Christianity. He is also a life-long clergyman who has studied and taught in many universities in the Western world. Wright believes in the literal, actual bodily resurrection of Jesus. He explains why in this video. My only regret is that the video is only one hour or so. I felt that much that Wright had talked about in his 700 page book on the resurrection was cut short or left out of the video....the film would have been much better at twice its current length. ![]() Resurrection $14.00 It's worth noting that I think there were two things about *me* at the time I read it that led me to be so moved and fascinated: 1) I was raised a Christian, and 2) I was unfamiliar with the Gnostic Gospels. One thing I admire and appreciate about the book is how its genre matches its subject matter so well: historical fiction and gnosticism. The reading process then becomes perhaps the most alluring and exciting way to discover historical fact, through compelling fictional characters (with some even based on historical reality). Another aspect I appreciated was the relatableness (sure, it's a word) of the three main characters: Gemma, Michael, and Anthony. I could relate to Gemma's confusion and strength, to Michael's dependency, to Anthony's independent spirit.... In general, I especially like meeting the creators of art that I enjoy and I'm glad I was able to do that here, seeing the source of the book's wit and charm. Perhaps most importantly, this book opened up a whole new world of non-canonical Christianity to me, on a deeply human level. Through the plot-line itself, wounds I wasn't even fully aware of -- until tears welled up in my eyes -- were uncovered, whitnessed, and then gently tended to, as Gemma herself dealt with feelings of betrayal and anguish at the behavior of the Christian Church, honestly, and yet without playing the blame card or the victim card. In the end I was left transformed, enlightened, and hopeful...eager to learn more. ![]() Resurrection $14.95 This book is excellent! I recommend to all that is ready for an enlighting experience and change of consciousness (awakening). ![]() Resurrection $9.95 Coming two years after SE7EN, this direct to video thriller follows Detective Prudhomme (Christopher Lambert), a transplant from New Orleans to Chicago, as he hunts down a killer who is following a 'schedule' to Easter. In the same vein as SE7EN, the killer has a method and a schedule, ripe with biblical references only a devout religious person would understand. The killer is also baiting the detectives (as killers do in these kinds of thrillers). Christopher Lambert has always been a flat actor, never really giving his charaters much depth. As an out of place police detective who is also mourning the death of his son and fighting his own internal faith battle, there is the hint of depth, but not much. The scene in the diner with the FBI agent, where he screams at the agent, is proof of how flat an actor Lambert is. In a scene that should have been layered with all of the guilt and mourning and pain of his character, Lambert is merely reading the lines as they have been written. The rest of this movie is an almost direct rip off of SE7EN. From the atmosphere, to the 'twists', to the tempting of the police by the killer, to the threat on the detectives wife, there is not one new or surprising element to this film. The only difference between the two films is that RESURRECTION is more graphic. The murders are shown in vivid detail, which reduces the thrill element completely. Instead of implied violence and suggested butchery, the blatant graphic-ness leaves the gruesome acts with no other reason than gratuitous acts, and leaves the viewer not having to think. If you are looking for a movie that has nothing deeper than its visual element, this is a movie you may enjoy. If you are looking for something deeper, see SE7EN |
