![]() A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose $16.95 After hearing from an acquaintance that this book helped her find her purpose in life, I decided to read the first few pages online to see what it was about. Be prepared to read a lot of nothing saturated with adjectives, adverbs, and passive sentences used to cover up the fact that this is a bunch of... well.. nothing (probably, most likely, is said to, etc). "The first flower probably did not survive for long (...)" "Those delicate and fragrant beings we call flowers come to play an essential part in the evolution of consciousness of another species (...)" Trust me, if the first thing human beings noticed had been flowers, our ancestors would have been killed by predators before we existed. "Flowers were most likely the first thing they came to value that had no utilitarian purpose for them." "The Buddha is said to have given a 'silent sermon'" "Any life-form in any realm - mineral, vegetable, animal, or human, can be said to undergo 'enlightenment.'" Excuse me?! Since when are minerals alive??? Get a good poetry book instead if you want to read flowery language (pun intended) to distract you from your problems. I'm glad I haven't spent my money on this piece of junk! ![]() Bob's Red Mill Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour, 44-Ounce Units (Pack of 4) $33.12 Can be used in anything- cake, bread, pancakes... makes gf food taste satisfying! Craig's guest was Billy Connolly, the Scottish actor/comedian and they were discussing Craig's new book. I have long enjoyed Billy's outrageous humor and find it not unlike Craig's. Their discussion was very interesting and so funny that I ordered the book the next day. It's hard to believe that a man who had sunk so low and lost so much through multiple addictions could pull himself together and become a sober, productive member of society. His first step toward recovery was when he finally accepted the fact that he "couldn't drink and he couldn't not drink." That was when he sought help. When he had been sober for a while, he was incredulous the first time he realised he was actually having FUN without having had to drink, smoke,or snort anything. It is not a preachy book so I think alcoholics and drug addicts might well find, as Craig did, that life can go on happily without these artificial props. Craig is a master of the double entendre and his language and humor are quite irreverent, but somehow not offensive. It makes me think that perhaps laughter IS indeed the best medicine, because this book, though sad in part, made me laugh out loud more than once. |
