I usually conduct paper prototype tests and very suprising results surface, that highly improve the over all value of the product my team working on. Don't buy this book if none of your team likes to make paper models. Survey them who has the passion to make origamy.  Rapid Prototyping: Principles and Applications (2nd Edition) $48.00 This book traces the development of Rapid Prototyping Technology and its applications in the industry. Fundamentals such as the STL file format and the working principle behind the various systems are clearly explained and illustrated. This makes it suitable for use as a reference text for a course in RP. In addition, future development for these systems are discussed, making it also very useful those who are already familiar with the technology. Last but not least, the book includes many informative case studies to help the reader understand how RP is actually being used in the industry. This will help the reader select the best system to use for his particular application.  User's Guide to Rapid Prototyping $98.00 I have come to question whether Todd Grimm and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) present a truly objective look at Rapid Prototyping and Additive Fabrication technologies. My concern, as detailed at [...], comes from the fact that Grimm and SME seem a bit too close to think that either is providing an arm's length look at this important industry. If you do read this book, I encourage you to consider it more along the lines of propaganda than hard, objective reporting. That may be okay, since there is a lot of good to say about this industry. But I think Todd's reasons for writing this book were more to bolster his own marketing practice than to provide readers with valuable, actionable content. |
