I recently picked up a copy of All Hands & The Cook on advice of a friend. Not being a big fan of "pop" music, I was skeptical. What a terrific surprise to hear a band with a nice raw edge performing very cleverly crafted songs! Maybe it's just indicative of a first album, but the missing "polish", heard on higher budget recordings, adds a whole level of honesty to this album that you don't hear much in today's pop culture. Check out "Deny The Sun" to see what I'm talking about. For now, I think this band really has it figured out...I hope they can continue to mix intelligent music and lyrics with simplicity and honesty. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who has given up hope for meaningful raw pop.
