![]() Torchwood: Children of Earth $29.98 If I could give it less than one star I would. Children of Earth was the first Torchwood I'd ever seen. I did not know much about the characters or have any previous attachment. And yes, at first I thought it was brilliant, I was on the edge of my seat. However, I realized that the action, violence, and shocking themes was *distracting* me from the poor writing and massive plot holes. It was all a smoke screen to cover up the mediocre script. All about the shock value. Now, I discuss the lame plot devices with others and have a good laugh over the stupidity of it. In the UK they're selling a box set of series 1 and 2 for 10 pounds *more* than one that includes COE. They're paying people to take Children of Earth! That ought to tell you something. So, I guess if you like action and violence and don't really care about good writing, you might enjoy COE. But if you want something that's well written too, don't bother wasting your money. ![]() Primeval [Blu-ray] $34.99 When I bought this movie (for 15 cents used) I knew what I was getting myself into. I enjoy a crappy creature film here and there, and I was expecting just that. I was expecting bad cg and bad acting, and got that..but I didn't get as much slice n' dice I was hoping for. >>>> Only 3-4 people died from the crocodile...the rest from some angry African militia...it was just disapointing. The cg alone was better than most creature films that disapoint...but I'd rather see a bunch of unrealistic crocodile cg than the Samuel L. Jackson wannbe militia leader terrorizing the reporters. I offer my review for 2 reasons...1 that I'm bored. And 2 -just incase someone doesn't know any better and goes into this movie hoping for another Lake Placid, which this certainly wasn't. ![]() Doctor Who: The Next Doctor (2008 Christmas Special) $14.98 I think this special episode ("The Next Doctor") out on DVD was good but could have been more exciting like the next special "Planet of the Dead". Unfortunately, the suspense with the Cybermen was a bit lacking compared to the 2-part episodes ("Rise of Cybermen" and "The Age of Steel") from Season 2 with Rose Tyler. The ending was a letdown and totally a cop-out compared to the 2-parter from Season 2. But, the real twist is figuring out this new "Doctor" character played by David Morrissey. Yes, he was in "Basic Instinct 2" with Sharon Stone but at heart is a British actor deep in BBC productions. Hearing him talk with the REAL "Doctor" is a hoot and you will easily be won-over with his emotional rollercoaster ride. Cybermen are NOT scary in this special which is sad but I think writers were counting on the whole David against David banter to last for 60 minutes. If you are a true "Doctor Who" fan, then get it. If you are the occasional viewer, then check first with "Planet of the Dead" before "The Next Doctor". Also, I can't wait for "Waters of Mars" and "The End of Time" 2-parter season finale. I don't get the Dish but others can catch it on BBC America in December 19 for "Waters of Mars" and December 26 for the first part of "The End of Time". Also, you will find out who knocks 4 times. ![]() The Beast (Two-Disc Special Extended Version) $14.98 you were as usal very helpfull and as always i enjoyed the movie as much as doing bussiness with amazon |
