I love this book. Reading it was like spending time with a friend. The author's style is very friendly, smart (feminist in a good way) and realistic about motherhood. She's like me, someone in the middle who loves working but also doesn't feel right having kids and never seeing them. I was recently laid off and although I'm job hunting it looks like I'll be a stay at home mom for a while to my two preschoolers. It's been a mixed blessing. I love that I have the opportunity to care for my kids myself, but I miss my career and I worry about if I'll ever have one again. Being a working mom like I had been was unbeliveably hard, but before staying home with my kids like I am now I HAD NO IDEA how hard it is to be home caring for children all day. I thought stay at home moms had it easy. I now feel dumb admitting that. I'm lonely a lot. I feel disconnected from the world. This book has helped me realize that I'm not alone in how I'm feeling, and that I'm not a bad mom for sometimes not wanting to spend my day being a mom. It's okay for men to not want to be full-time dads but women are made to feel like we're all supposed to want to be full-time moms. A The author also has a blog that I enjoy. [...]. This is a good book. I'm glad I stumbled upon it. I think this author and moms like us should get to be on Oprah or the Today show! We'll talk about how, as the author says, Stay-at-Home Motherhood is a Job.
