I've owned two iPhones (I now own a 3GS), and I've had experience with several iPhone cases and lots of experience accidentally dropping my iPhone while in the case. What I'm looking for in a case is: a)Overall quality construction. b)Good velcro to secure the flap. c)Firm attachment to one's belt so the case won't fall off. d)Good protection from rain. e)Protection from point stresses (i.e. striking the iPhone on a corner exposed by the case). f)Protection from overall acceleration stresses (i.e. dropping the iPhone flat onto a hard surface). (a): The case is well-constructed with thick leather. I've only had mine for about a week, so I don't know how well it will age. (b): The velcro is good. Another different model of case I owned had really weak velcro. (c): The spring steel in the clip seems solid, and it has little enough clearance that it will fit even thin belts snugly. (d): The case has a solid top and there is some overhang at the ends, which provdes good protection (probably the best that can be attained in this style of case). (e): The thick leather and the "overhang" at all four corners helps to cushion the iPhone when dropped in this case. Essentially the leather deforms to cushion the stop. The only vulnerability seems to be the opening at the bottom in the center, but one would have to drop the iPhone onto something unusual and it would have to hit just right for this opening to matter. This opening is necessary in the product in order to remove the iPhone from the case (no way around this). I judge this case superior to other models that leave two of the lower corners exposed to impact. (f): The thick leather is again helpful in this regard. In most cases iPhone breakage is caused by point stresses rather than overall deceleration, so (e) above matters more. Thick leather may be the best that can be done in this style of case. This is the best practical case I've encountered. I especially like that fact that the lower two corners are effectively protected and cushioned from accidental drops. ![]() Cine Premiere $99.95 The magazine of cinema in Mexico.
