"Adored" is the story of Riki Kandinski, a French gay porn star but it is also the story of family. It takes place in the south of France when Riki and his older brother Frederico go back to their family castle for their father's funeral. They have not been together for a long time and older brother knows nothing about his younger brother except that he lives in luxury and makes a lot of money for a few days of work a week. By chance, Frederico finds a gay porn magazine and sees his brother's picture in it.
The movie actually happens in 2014 when a film crew contacts Frederico and asks for help in telling the story of 1990's porn star Riki. Moving backwards to 1999, we find Frederico determined to find out about his brother's life. Over a period of 18 months, Frederico faces Riki's homosexuality and his work. Through this the brothers become closer and develop a sense of family.
Frederico is initially horrified about Riki but he is able to look past it and love his brother in spite of his lifestyle and career.
"Adored" walks the thin line between lack of realism and making its dramatic points. It really doesn't matter that the film is unrealistic or that the storytelling aspect of the film is trite. It is the acting that saves this film and writer/director/star Marco Filiberti as Riki gives a performance of perfection. He has the role within his soul. He is quite simply astounding. Urbano Barberini as Frederico brings a refreshing realism to his performance.
The film has its twists and turns, some of which throw the viewer off but the acting and the dialog as well as the characterizations are so good that I overlooked the minuses. What the film does so well is deal with is that people like porn stars are just people like everyone else and it examines what is family. This film, even though, it is blatantly unrealistic, has something to offer and it had me thinking.
The film shows a sex-positive peek into the world of gay porn but it is about so much more than sex and money. Family and love are its themes as well as showing people who step outside of their comfort zone and opening their eyes to new ideas.

There are two versions here - the regular director's cut and then the "snuff" cut marked EVIDENCE - go with that one. It gets across the idea without any "artiness." The snuff cut is just an uninterupted cut of the encounter between the killer and his prey (who the guy is either married to or something because - there is a hella-contact in this movie) - more graphic sexually and more disturbing than the first film - which had bad arty stuff ruining the mood every few minutes, the SNUFF cut ( i can't believe they called it that - but it's accurate) is truly dark material if you like this kind of thing - normally I don't - but when it's done this well - it brings you into another dimension you're not really used to - this isn't a thriller - this is truly disturbing stuff. But sit back and watch it unfold - that's the mesmerizing lure of these films - to see how far he goes. I haven't seen 3 yet - thankfuly it's the last chapter as we don't want this killer to turn into Freddy.

After reading this book, my main concern was "can I do this". After reading, I'm not only excited, but truly convinced that almost anyone with a brain can do what the book reveals.
