Population: An Introduction to Concepts and Issues
Population: An Introduction to Concepts and Issues

$170.95
This is a textbook that is easy to read and covers alot of theory, but nothing complicated.

This is a book on demographic theory, not demographic methods, they are often studied separately.
(A good book methods is Preston's Demography: Measuring and Modeling Population Processes)
It explains the major formulas in an easy way, but you really need a methods book to learn all the practical techniques.

The purpose of this book is to explain the major demographic variables: mortality, fertility, and migration.
It tends to use a historical perspective and uses examples from all over the world.
I thought the book was easy to read and very informative, and it explained the formulas in a non-technical way which helped me understand the methodology better.

My kids love this DVD. Great for curious elementary age kids. Interesting for parents too.
NOVA - World in the Balance: The Population Paradox
NOVA - World in the Balance: The Population Paradox

$19.95
Typical of NOVA, this is a film with solid film-making, substance and appeal. It addresses some mature themes such as impoverished African women forced into lives of prostitution and the effects of AIDS in Africa. Its real-life interviews and serious themes require a more mature high school audience, but they will be riveted throughout the film. It clearly addresses human population dynamics, a required topic in upper Biology classes.
