![]() Snoopy Double Feature Vol. 8 (Charlie Brown's All-Stars/It's Spring Training, Charlie Brown) [VHS] $9.95 This is an adequate compendium of 2 Peanuts specials, each dealing with Charlie Brown needing sponsorship for his baseball team. CHARLIE BROWN'S ALL STARS scores in some of its animation, especially the action scenes with Snoopy surfing and the kids skateboarding. Also noteworthy is a good soundtrack by Vince Guaraldi-probably the main reason why this special was nominated for an Emmy. But the special is poorly edited and has some poor animation. IT'S SPRING TRAINING, CHARLIE BROWN, overall, is about as good as CHARLIE BROWN'S ALL STARS. It's well edited and scores in its funny, unexpected rap/dance scene led by Franklin. Some things about the story are not well explained, like where Charlie Brown knows new character Leland from. Worth your money if you were curious about these 2 specials as you probably don't remember them being broadcast. ![]() DRG 25th Anniversary Show Stopping Performances $11.98 I don't actually own this particular compilation, however, since I own nearly every recording represented on these discs...I think I'm qualified to comment. This is a wonderful representation of the high quality of work that DRG Records does. The previous review is way off the mark. This is definitely not a waste of time or money. This is 25 years of preserving Broadway shows, Off-Broadway shows, studio recordings (mostly from the city center concerts), etc. So what if they "aren't as good as the original", DRG is preserving many recordings and artists that other mainstream labels don't or won't. You have wonderful recordings from Brian Stokes Mitchell, Nathan Lane, Debbie Gravitte, Tyne Daly, Anthony Perkins, Joanna Gleason, Marin Mazzie, Carol Burnett, Heather Headley, Patti LuPone, Barbara Cook, etc., and many of these are from Original Cast Recordings just as they appeared on Broadway. This is an excellent sampler of the work going on at DRG. No...I'm not an employee...just an avid listener and collector of theatre recordings. ![]() Dragons Lair $18.99 Dragon's Lair was released in 1999 and recorded in top studios around the San Francisco Bay Area including Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, where Jessica worked with producer, Bob Matthews (The Grateful Dead), and the late arranger, John Kahn (bassist of The Jerry Garcia Band). The musicians on this session include Mario Cippolina on bass (Huey Lewis and The News), Donny Baldwin on drums (Jefferson Starship), Pete Sears on the keyboard (Hot Tuna, Jefferson Starship) and an orchestra of strings and horns. The sessions done at Prairie Sun in Cotati and Laughing Tiger in San Rafael feature six songs recorded with Jessica's touring band and the last three songs were recorded solo acoustic with Jessica singing, as well as playing guitar and didgeridoo.
