![]() Setting Limits with Your Strong-Willed Child : Eliminating Conflict by Establishing Clear, Firm, and Respectful Boundaries $14.95 As I continue to understand this parenting thing, I am still reading some books on this topic. Hopefully, in the future I will preach on some of the ideas that I have gained. This book deals with the "Strong Willed Child." Really, what child is not strong willed. Also, why read a book on the weak willed child. Who needs a book on this. So I started out at the top. This book was excellent. It laid a great foundation for parenting but also provided practical steps and advice for common situations. This book I would highly recommend to parents of all kids. It has been a huge help to me in training my children. I feel more empowered and in control. As a parent gains more insights into parenting, the better the family life will become. This is a great book for raising kids: practical and helpful. ![]() Grace-Based Parenting $14.99 i loved the book. it's helped me so much parenting my 6 year old son. thank God for grace! ![]() Parenting From the Inside Out $14.95 I had a chance to hear Dr. Dan Siegel speak on the topic of "Mindsight", the topic of his next book due in January of 2010. Since I'm an educational consultant and a parenting coach, my next stop was the book store to pick up this gem of a book. I teach a class based on my professional knowledge and Martha Beck's work, called "Guiding Your Children to Their Own North Star". As I quoted Dr. Siegel liberally during the latest go round of the class, I found that my clients(coaches and parents) made greater strides in really understanding how the "leftovers" from their own childhood really impacted their relationship with their children. The key question, "Explain how your child's behavior triggered your response", helped them understand that their values and the consequences imposed on their children were more about their own past then the child's behavior. I've also found that an unexpected benefit of this book is that it helps my adult clients become more aware of "who they really are". The "AHAH" moments from the week discussed at the beginning of class..show that they are beginning to reconnect with their own essense. I've recommended this book to many of my clients and they all find it to be extremely beneficial. It's a bit of a technical read, but going through the chapters again and again is helpful to absorb all the key findings. Mary Ann Lowry, M.Ed. ![]() Screamfree Parenting: The Revolutionary Approach to Raising Your Kids by Keeping Your Cool $13.95 Runkel's book pointed out all that I hate about many parenting books. Too often they are books that like to highlight what a parent does wrong, while giving very little real advice about how to effectively be a parent. Essentially, Runkle could have simplied this into one sentence: "It's rarely effective to yell at your kids". Unfortunately, I already knew that before I read the book. |
