We have been using this stuff for two nights at football practice. It works very well for gnats and mosquitoes, but doesn't seem to last very long - maybe an hour before you need to re-apply. But, it doesn't smell bad at all - like apples or cantalope or something. So, keep the bottle handy, but it is effective.

I have a small deck with a canopy over it that gets well used here in the summer time. Since I cannot afford to close it in, the continuous battle with mosquito's is an old one. Either global warming has spawned a new breed of mutant mosquito's, or they just didn't seem to be so interested in us when we were kids. For I can't imagine anyone sitting outside on a summer night here in New England without some form of well armed arsenal available. In the past I have tried all the coils, candles, foggers, and alike and I had the usually decrepit success rate for the most part. I came across this Lantern power pad thingy two summers ago at a local store here. My first impression of it was that it was just the latest gimmick that wouldn't work, and was skeptical at best. My mind was actually made up by a woman there that was picking up refills for it and couldn't shut up about how wonderful it was. Deciding to take the ladies word for it, I bought one and tried out that very night.

All I can say is that the next time I am at this store or any other and meet someone else in the throws of indecision while picking up refills, I will become the satisfied customer that won't shut up. The Powerpad Lamp works like magic. It consists of nothing but a small plastic lantern and a normal size tea candle that sits inside that burns under an inch wide chemical strip. The candle heats the strip and it releases vapors. At first lighting, the strip emanates a little smoke, but then that soon disappears. From the moment you light it, it begins to work, and it doesn't quit for a full 3 hours, or as long as the candle inside burns. My deck is a full 15' by 15' and not a single mosquito will be seen or heard for the entire time its burning. I mean nothing, not even at the very outskirts of the deck. (The box claims it can keep an area up to 25 ft. square free of pests). The strip does not do any less of a job in clearing out the little buggers after 2 hours, as it does 5 minutes after lighting it. You got to trust me on this one folks, this little baby is for real. It works fabulously. Oh and in case you are wondering, no, I have never detected any kind of odor or scent from it of any kind. No smell of citronella or anything else.

I not only recommend the Powerpad, but I also suggest that whether you buy it here or someplace else, that you buy plenty of refills for it all at once. The Powerpad is so popular around here that its rare to find more than 1 or 2 of the 3 pack refills on a shelf at any given time. One thing about buying them here on Amazon is at least they never seem to run out. So if you do that, definately buy a whole summers worth at a time and save on the shipping. Highly recommended...
