![]() Read-Aloud Rhymes for the Very Young $19.95 What a fantastic surprise this turned out to be. We ordered it on the basis of Amazon reviews and Prelutsky's reputation. It has really captured the attention of our little boy while age 2-3. We'll read page after page and he doesn't get tired of it--this at an age when he's getting a lot pickier. The rhymes are just wonderful and the pictures go very well with them. This is not the typical poetry collection for young people. I think it has more appeal than most, at least "for the very young" as the title says. It's almost like an addition to the Mother Goose & nursery rhyme canon... ![]() Baby Genius Favorite Nursery Rhymes w/bonus Music CD $9.98 My 22 month old daughter loves this video. There is a cute song that teaches numbers 1-10. In less than one week she began saying and "Recognizing" each number individually which is awesome. She has also learned to recognize her alphabet by watching this video. She mostly enjoys singing and dancing to the nursery rhymes. She watches it over and over! This is a great supplement to Baby Einstein videos because its a little more fun and interactive. Special Note: we us a old portable dvd player that we keep on the coffee table so that she can sit in her own chair and watch her videos while we watch "regular tv"...It keeps her busy while my husband and I enjoy our favorite shows... ![]() Favorite Nursery Rhymes from Mother Goose $19.95 The illustrations in this book are beyond beautiful. I fell in love with it the moment I opened the book. The pictures are sure to capture any child's attention as they read through it. I cannot wait to give it to my 4 year old for Christmas! ![]() Classic Nursery Rhymes $11.99 We keep out numerous children's books for our toddler, and many of those are nursery rhymes books. Our 16-month-old daughter chooses this one time and time again. Before this one came into our house, her favorites were Lucy Cousin's nursery rhymes book and The Neighborhood Mother Goose, which she still does enjoy. When we got this book several months ago, this quickly became her first choice. (even over such classic nursery favorites as Tomie de Paola's, Sylvia Long's, Rosemary Wells' and Richard Scarry's, which she also likes but just not as much). This book is perfect for toddlers because the pictures so accurately depict the words. The cover is a great example of this style as you can actually point out a cat, fiddle, cow jumping over moon, laughing dog, and dish running away with a spoon. The other rhymes are similarly literally depicted. Many rhymes, such as The Three Little Kittens, Old Mother Hubbard, and Ladybug, Ladybug, have many pages illustrating the action of the narrative. It is so fantastic for a young child who needs these pictures to show the words. It's a language development gold mine! Also, the pictures are rich in color and thick and glossy. Regarding the negative review above, it is bizarre that anyone could describe these pictures as "sexualized." I cannot fathom how these illustrations could possibly be considered even remotely sexual. The pictures do depict people, which is a nice change from so many where all the actors of the rhymes are animals, but there's definitely nothing "sexualized" about them. If you're looking for a captivating deluxe book of nursery rhymes for a toddler to absolutely adore, look no further because this book is sure to please. |
