 Like It Never Was Before $29.95 "Like It Never Was Before" Searching Amos Lassen "Like It Never Was Before" is a brilliant little movie about a middle-aged man having a life crisis. He realizes that not only does he not love his wife but that he may also be gay. Yet this is not a film about homosexuality; it is about escaping social rules, limitations and expectations placed on someone who is forced to behave by them and then discovering who he really is. Loa Falkman plays Rune Runeberg who is having the crisis. His wife, played by Stine Elkblad, is a housewife in the middle of a crumbling marriage who tries to save what cannot be saved. The movie has excellent direction and the acting is first class. At first, this seems to be a typical film which is somewhat comedic but as it progresses there is profound questioning of the values of "normalcy". When Rune is tempted by what is forbidden by society--having an affair with a man--he must come to terms with what he really wants out of life. The universal of happiness is the theme. The script is witty and sharp as it focuses on the middle class in Sweden. Even though there are some laughs at the expanse of the hero's family, we find ourselves choking on our titters when we see the true nature of what is going on and we see how unhappy the characters are with their lives.  Mel Bay Joe Venuti - Never Before...Never Again Book & CD $19.95 Joe Venuti was the first and greatest jazz violinist. In 1954 an impromptu recording session in duet with guitarist Tony Romano produced, in the words of respected jazz critic Leonard Feather, "music of the highest and purest order." British Jazz violinist and teacher Aidan Massey has meticulously transcribed Venuti's breathtaking solos from this session, the CD of which is also included with this volume. Paul Anastasio who studied with Venuti says this represents Joe's "best recorded work" and that Massey "has done a terrific job of writing spot-on, highly accurate transcriptions."
