![]() Learning Resources Money Bags A Coin Value Game $18.99 I will start with the negative and end on a positive note. On the negative side: In my opinion, this game is too simple to be fun for an adult. Yes it is a children's game, but adults end up playing too. All you do is roll the die and take the amount of money for the space on which you landed. One educational addition is that you have to spin a spinner and you may have to determine the coins to take without using dimes or nickles etc. It would be more fun if you could buy something with your money, and that could even involve making change which would also make the game more educational. My children do not like it when the spinner lands on the moneybags symbol and they don't get their money for that turn. We sometimes just ignore that rule. Of course they need to be able to lose well, but there are not many turns in the game, so often enough, once you've given up your money for even one turn, you have lost the game. They don't like to feel like they've already lost within the first couple of turns but have to continue playing. On the positive side, my older children (ages 5 and 7) in general enjoy playing this game and do use and improve money counting skills while playing. ![]() The Story of Money $7.99 The history of money is a huge topic, and this book provides a great overview of the transition from hunting and gathering, to bartering and trade, to different types of currency, to the electronic transactions of today. My kids found the illustrations of ancient coins and paper money really interesting. There are three pages of additional information in the back of the book, including some facts about very unusual money. (I'm not sure why that info wasn't just included in the book; maybe the author felt it would distract from the general story?) I would give this book 5 stars but the text is just a bit dry and repetitive in places. It's independent reading for 2nd grade or above, but younger kids would enjoy hearing it too. ![]() Bunny Money (Max and Ruby) $6.99 If you are a fan of Max and Ruby, or just looking for a book for a young reader, this is it! Max always finds a way to win, and grandma always makes it fair. ![]() The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness $24.99 If you think you know a lot about money... think again. Dave's book showed me where I was wrong, when that happened and especially what to do to get out of (now the dreaded word) debt. If you read these reviews you basically admit you're one of us, the people who fell for the buy now, pay later mentality. We know it's wrong but we continued to do it. There is hope! Yes, take heart and read, read and read again this book. It's got all the info you need to get out of it. We are on our way to Freedom, freedom from making others rich and us poor. There is a lot more there so you need to check for yourself. Thank you, Dave. You da' man! |
