![]() Mixing, Recording and Producing Techniques of the Pros $34.99 I must be fair. My first review of this book (now deleted)was written from the frustration. I had enjoyed so much The Expert Encyclopedia of Recording that, when I found this one, I didn't mind the absence of the Search Inside option. I just knew this had to be a great book. When I received my copy, I was dissapointed, not by the book being bad, which isn't, but for not have had enough information about it, as to know it actually was an updated edition of the one I already owned, with different title and cover art. The one-star rating should have been directed to the publisher (and the damage he was doing to the book), not to the content itself. Having said that, I've read many books devoted to mixing and recording, and this one is among the best; enthusiastic and instructive as few others, well structured and covering almost everything you need to know. I repeat: if you don't own The Expert Encyclopedia, don't waste a minute and get this one. In my case, I'll use it as a gift to a good friend and I know he'll appreciate it. Most important of all, the author has shown me he is a very nice person, passionate about his work and concerned about his readers. I'd say he's even better than his book. He deserved this review. ![]() The Art of Mixing: A Visual Guide to Recording, Engineering, and Production $49.99 This book is a must have, period. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran. This book presents a new way of "looking" at a mix. For newbies, it is the most concise and logical approach to mixing that I have ever seen. I have read dozens of books about audio engineering and this one just makes the most sense. For those of us who have experience, it really brings a new clarity to what we have always been doing and why we do it, as well as offers a new way to look at things, making it quicker to achieve the same results (in my opinion). Like I said, no matter what level of skill you have, you need this book! ![]() The Basics of Home Recording, Vol. 4: A Complete Guide to Mixing $19.95 Wow, this video is short, poorly done and very very dated. We are talking about a dude with a mullet pointing to print outs on a music stand with a pen. There are no computers or software in this at all, only lame cut aways to cassette multi-trackers. Sure, the theories are still good but it doesn't go into detail enough at all. If you're looking for advanced mixing theories for your modern home studio, this isn't it. Not even close. Boo! ![]() The S.M.A.R.T. Guide to Mixing and Mastering Audio Recordings (S.M.A.R.T. Guide To...) $39.99 I bought this book thinking it would help me with my home-studio work. I've been a hobbyist recording engineer (using multiple cassette decks to do primitive multi-tracking, buidling a Frippertronics rig from 2 completely different open reel decks, sequencing with multiple Merlin's) for 30 years and never seen the inside for a real recording studio. I invested in a 24 track HD dead 2 years ago and when it's time to master my tracks to CD/MP3 I'm still not getting it. I was hoping this book would tell me the things I didn't know about how to make my demos sound perfect. I was wrong - it is far too basic for anyone that has done any kind of work with tape or digital recording and produced satisfactory results. So apparently I know more than I thought because this book doesn't do it. It might be fine for beginners but it won't make you Eno. |
