I actually used these to start a fire in the wind and rain. Albeit under shelter and they worked very well. They burned hot and for a fair ammount of time. In fact I had already tried my masterbicolighter that many web sites offer as perfectly capable of getting fires going under adverse conditions and to my....ok not to my amazement. These matches worked better than the bic. I first encountered these out in Northwest at a great bushcraft site. The thing everyone probably realizes is that when wet it is harder to light a fire. Duh. Well these matches worked very well even with my hands still damp in the wind and that is all one can ask from any match (in my humble opinion).... Ok if you brought your torch and a propane bottle maybe you could get it going faster but if you have those things with you then lighting a fire is not your challenge anyway.
There is only so much a match can do.

through Iserson's Getting into Residency, which pales in comparison to
The Successful Match. The depth of information provided in this book
for each step of the application process is astounding. It is well-
researched and provides insightful perspectives into each specialty.
The tips provided on selecting an advisor to dealing with a
conversational interview will be especially helpful. I especially
liked the information provided for writing the personal statement, CV,
and ERAS. Learning how program directors view the details provided to
them in these documents challenged me to present my professional
background effectively. Being educated about the Match through this
book has reduced my anxiety and I am certain it would do the same for
anyone who avails the use of this book. Best of luck in the upcoming

Here in Central TX it is "well nigh impossible" to find a specialty item like this--no hardware store in sight has them. So...I went to good ole Amazon.

You really don't want to be without waterproof matches in any kind of outdoor setting/activity. On very humid days here it has proven impossible to get a decent flame (or even a flame al all) from normal small matches...this because of moisture absorption by the tip and moist/worn strike surface.

Coghlan's fires up every time. Try a comparison yourself: soak a Coghlan's and a garden-variety match in water for a few seconds and do the deed--you'll wonder why you ever were without waterproof matches around.
