![]() Lean Manufacturing That Works: Powerful Tools for Dramatically Reducing Waste and Maximizing Profits $27.95 The subject matter is of much interest to me as I have a BBA and an MBA in Operations Management and have only worked in manufacturng environments. I am staring a new job tomorrow and catching up on reading about my profession after being unemployed for 5 months. This author's writing style is too condesending though. I am at Chapter 10 right now out of 20 and it's about value-stream mapping which will be very helpful for me to brush up on sense I am starting a new position. I am going to try to get through it but I would not recommend it. ![]() Manufacturing a Better Future for America $14.95 Someone said this book is not light reading, and someone said it was overdue by ten years. Yes, we were napping while the value-creating part of our economy was being given to others by a small minority of people running multinational companies. And I should add, running them very profitably. I've gone through this book quickly and almost completely, but I can't wait to get into it again. Many of us average citizens can see what our leaders, pundits, and economists either can't or won't: manufacturing makes wealth. Emerging countries know this and are, not surprisingly, using manufacturing to become wealthy. Terrific! Lift your people out of poverty. I applaud you for it. But we should not be giving away what we've worked so hard to attain, by which I mean our standard of living. Sure, we need to cut out the compulsive consumption, but must we drop into poverty? Our "leaders" either don't recognize this or give it lip service only. We see our neighbors out of work and wonder when our turn will come. But what can we do? Well, this book gives you talking points, not only the numbers and facts but also an intelligent perspective on the grim tale of continuing U.S. industrial decline. Read it, absorb it, and then get busy making politicians, your friends and everybody else aware of this huge problem. It has gone too far already; it's time to stop this madness and get healthy again. Tag, you're it! And so am I. ![]() QuickBooks Premier Manufacturing & Wholesale 2010 $399.95 QuickBooks Premier Manufacturing & Wholesale offers an easy set of accounting, inventory and other time-saving tools to meet the demands of today¡Çs businesses.
