What do these terms have in common? They are all types of appliqu«± that can be done on a sewing machine. Several things stand out in this DVD. Use stabilizer when doing Satin Stitches, use Rubber Cement when turning edges over, use pencil only when creating freezer paper templates and practice, practice, practice! The DVD was a long one but it is packed with information that will make you a better machine appliqu«±-er. There is a book by the same name if you want to have a hard copy of the information. Sharon suggests that you try padded appliqu«± for a puffy look like for a sheep and mix different appliqu«± types and stitches to give your quilt the look you want. She walks you through each step for each type of appliqu«±. Her tool suggestions are "on the cheap" which is my kind of tools!! Use round toothpicks, or chop sticks to help you turn the edges over when gluing and use chop sticks to hold thread when couching by slipping the thread on the chopstick and using the weight of the sewing machine to hold it. Don't forget to put a rubber band on the edge of the chop stick so the thread spool stays in place! She also suggests a 60/8 needle for invisible appliqu«± with 60 weight thread and an open toe foot. Also make sure your sewing line is NOT centered but rather more on the appliqu«± than on the background. One other thing I enjoyed on the DVD was the outtakes. It is nice to see the teacher relax and not worry about saying everything perfectly. I know these are edited out for the DVD itself but they are fun to watch. |
