The editing and direction are third rate. I've seen many student films that are much better than this. Avoid buying and rent it if you must see it. I'm sorry I spent the money based on the reviews which were probably left by some of those involved in the making of this home made video project.

The Loved One is a rare instance in which a film surpasses the novel on which it was based. Evelyn Waugh's original novella was a sharp but spare social satire. The screenplay, written by Waugh's old friend Christopher Isherwood (Berlin Stories, I Am a Camera) and Terry Southern (Candy, Dr. Strangelove, The Magic Christian, etc.) is a rich, snappy mockery of Hollywood, the British in Hollywood, and the American Way of Death. Jonathan Winters gives a tour de force performance as the siblings Harry and Wilbur Glenworthy, one a studio hustler down on his luck and the other a cynical and megalomaniacal CEO of a bizarre mortuary/cemetary. Rod Steiger is superb as an effete embalmer, Robert Morse is an excellent casting choice as the bemused young British poet accidentally thrust into the bizarre world-within-world of the upper crust mortuary Whispering Glades. Numerous smaller roles and cameos by John Gielgud, Robert Morley, Liberace, James Coburn, Tab Hunter, Milton Berle enrich the film enormously. It's unpredictable, intelligent, hilarious, and devoid of jokes about bowel movements, a genre that seems to form the exoskeleton of all current comedies.

I accidentally discovered The Loved Ones at a Rise Against show I went to this past August. Not only did I not know that they'd be playing, I had no clue what they'd sound like.

What I heard was very enjoyable. Their catcy hooks, their immense stage prescence, everything about the performance I loved. When I got home, the first thing I did was look up info on them and downloaded their song "100K" (available on their site). It's since then become one of the most listened to songs on my computer.

The most accurate description I've heard people used to description their sound is a mix of early 90's Green Day and Jawbreaker, with a touch of Alkaline Trio thrown in. I agree with that. They can cover the catchy pop hooks of Green Day and lyrical brilliance of Blake Schwarzenbach, as apparant in "100K" as well as the deep bass lines of Mike Dirnt and Dan Andriano, shown in "Massive."

I highly recommend this band to everyone, especially fans of the aforementioned bands and any other group associated with them. Their debut full length on Fat Wreck Chords (whoops, there goes almost everyone) comes out early next year, so check that out when it arrives as well.

I don't know who these people are who wrote reviews on this movie. I bought this movie based on reviews which was big mistake. This movie goes on and on about nothing it's not about family or war. There are many sex scenes of boy's uncle or his unmarried sister and some nude pictures of woman embracing each other. I thought people who want this kind of scene there is porn movie. I was interested in history point of view and what family life was like in that time peropd which this movie shows nothing about. Unless you want be totaly digusted save your time and money. Yuck!
