It was to be their final album; but they could still easily perform anything they ever wanted to perform which is incredible; you can tell they had talent just by listening to their songs. Their sound was usually rather passionate; they gave their all to every song they did and it shows. The quality of the sound on this CD is excellent and I like the artwork, too. "Hooked on You" begins the album with Bread doing their usual very best; the guitar work impresses me and it enhances this number even more. They do "Hooked on You" without letting go of a single superfluous note and that's special. I love it! It also makes a great beginning number for this album. Listen also for "She's The Only One;" this country flavored rock ballad sounds so good that I could never tire of hearing Bread do this one up right--it really blows my mind away! "She's The Only One" is a major highlight of this album. Of course, "Lost Without Your Love" was and is a huge, huge hit for Bread; the title track for this album couldn't have done better by any other group and it has a sound to it that makes it so hard to forget this song once you've heard it. Songs like "Lost Without Your Love" truly speak to people's emotions and I think that's a huge part of what makes these songs so great. "Change Of Heart" uses the percussion well; and the music that plays fits in perfectly with the vocals. I like the most sensitive way they perform "Belonging." "Fly Away" gets the royal treatment from Bread; they inject a lot of genuine passion into this tune and they make it shine brighter than silver and gold when they perform it. Terrific! "Lay Your Money Down" is very memorable; and there's yet another gem in the soft rock song "The Chosen One." "The Chosen One" has great harmonizing and Bread does this faultlessly--what a true sign of genius this is! "Today's The First Day" is very well done and the melody is quite lush; the piano and the strings are well used in the musical arrangement. "Hold Tight" has a spirited arrangement and Bread delivers this with lots of energy; it's another unforgettable tune. I like that organ in "Hold Tight," too! The CD ends with "Our Lady of Sorrow;" this tune isn't exactly about the happiest of topics but it's beautiful nonetheless. Bread accomplished so much when they were together; their musical legacy never ceases to impress me. I highly recommend this album for Bread fans; and people just getting into the sound of Bread will love this album, too. |
