![]() Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking? $9.98 I ordered this CD after hearing just one song from the album while shopping in American Eagle. "What I Say And What I Mean", the first single from this album. After skimming through the disc and sampling songs one by one I began to ask myself... "What am I listening to...?". I was expecting more songs like the first single, a ROCKIER sound "If you will". "(So I'll Sit Here) Waiting" "Bridge To Nowhere" "Once Things Look Up" "Waves that never break" & "Under The Paving Stones" Are my favorites from this album and at the same time easily forgotten about, make sense?. They sound nothing... and I mean, NOTHING like the first single at all, "What I Say And What I Mean" is definatley in a world of it's own. This is a GREAT CD to relax to, EXCELLENT background music while sorting through old boxes. If You're expecting an album of upbeat Rock N Roll or Punk influences you're sadly mistaken. All the songs except for the lead single are clearly alternative, some even have a folk sound to them. It's not a bad Album at all but definatley not what one expects after hearing the first single. I was expecting something more on the lines of Lillix or Sahara Hotnights. Instead I got The Cranberries vs. Fiona Apple, I love both of those artist/band just was wanted something different. "The like" is a radical band and i'm still looking forward to this album's follow-up. ![]() Like: A Novel $24.00 This is a very good, ambitious novel and a much better book than Smith's more famously hyped "Hotel World." The form of the book, its symmetric halves, gives the novel much of its interest and creates some of its biggest problems. As others have noted, the information presented in the "Ash" section sheds new light on the first half of the book. While much becomes clearer after a reread, I don't think that a book should demand a reread in order for readers to have access to the information they need to interpret the actions of characters. I also think that a few crucial moments were missing from the novel. Of course most of them can be inferred, but the book would have been more satisfying had Smith explicitly narrated a few of the scenes from the past that fell through the cracks in the structure. While some other reviewers prefer the "Amy" section, I honestly think that while it's more lyrical, in many places the writing also tends to be somewhat lethargic and obtuse. Despite my criticisms of the book, I still found it to be a moving, worthwhile read. In fact, Smith's elegant and nuanced depictions of how internal and external forces draw people together and (more often) keep them apart are the real meat of the novel. And in her descriptions of these moments, when twin brothers draw their fists at each other, when a married couple walls their house into two equal halves, when people choose to play a role at the expense of their own well-being, are the moments Smith succeeds most brilliantly. ![]() Faith Like Potatoes $14.94 We rejoice over this movie! Haven't seen faith in Jesus so beautifully told without preachiness. True life testimonies are the only way to go. Thank you, Jesus - thank you, Angus and Jill and Simeon! Fantastic! Have purchased several DVDs to give for Christmas. ![]() Alex Toys Draw like A Pro $43.99 I bought this for my 8 year old son for his birthday. He just opened up all of his presents and this is the one that he wanted to try out first. I have to say, it's really cute. It doesn't come with batteries, so make sure you have 3 AA on hand. He's currently making his first drawing and it looks really good. You also have the ability to make a frog flip-book...that's what we're going to try next. This toy is alot of fun! |
