Drawn to Life: 20 Golden Years of Disney Master Classes: Volume 1: The Walt Stanchfield Lectures
Drawn to Life: 20 Golden Years of Disney Master Classes: Volume 1: The Walt Stanchfield Lectures

$29.95
Stanchfield's voice is so clear in his writing, you get the sense of his passion for the art, and his desire to teach and inspire the next generation of animators as if you were one of his students. His writing ranges the philosophical discussion of what it means to be an artist (animator) and it's place in society, to very specific instruction on what to draw and why. You should read this. Animators in any style should read this.
The Feynman Lectures on Physics (3 volume set) (Set v)
The Feynman Lectures on Physics (3 volume set) (Set v)

$101.10
This famous 3 volume set is best used in one of the following ways:

1. You have already taken university calculus based physics and are interested in another view of the subject by one of the modern masters of physics
2.. You are reading the texts for intellectual stimulation and already have some background in math/physics; e.g., you are a curious engineer
3. You are taking university physics and want to use these books for additional readings to understand important concepts and the big picture

If you are planning to use these books as your primary textbook source to learn the basics of physics, I agree with Feynman that these lectures are a failure.
However, the books are great to flip through, scan, skip around, read a page here and there. There are amazing deep insights sprinkled throughout.

The very serious student of physics should try and dig up the 5 volume Berkeley Physics Course to seek a deep, well-thought-out, mathematically rigorous introduction to
physics. Volume 2 on E&M by Purcell is still in print and still in use but the other volumes on Mechanics, Waves, Quantum, and Statistical Physics are harder to find.
Volume 5 on Stat Physics by Reif is particularly enlightening. By the way, if they tried to use all these Berkeley physics books as a primary texts in a freshman class today most engineering students would change their major
to Econ. However, the few proud students remaining would really be empowered for great success in the sciences.

Delivered at the Royal Institution, London, 1867. CASTE. These Lectures are meant to be comments on the state of France before the French Revolution. To English society, past or present, I do not refer. For reasons which I have set forth at length in an introductory discourse, there never was any Ancien Regime in England. Therefore, when the Stuarts tried to establish in England a system which might have led to a political condition like that of the Continent, all classes combined and exterminated them; while the course of English society went on as before. On the contrary, England was the mother of every movement which undermined, and at last destroyed, the Ancien Regime. From England went forth those political theories which, transmitted from America to France, became the principles of the French Revolution. From England went forth the philosophy of Locke, with all its immense results. It is noteworthy, that when Voltaire tries to persuade people, in a certain famous passage, that philosophers do not care to trouble theworld?of the ten names to whom he does honour, seven names are English. "It is," he says, "neither Montaigne, nor Locke, nor Boyle, nor Spinoza, nor Hobbes, nor Lord Shaftesbury, nor Mr. Collins, nor Mr. Toland, nor Fludd, nor Baker, who have carried the torch of discord into their countries." It is worth notice, that not only are the majority of these names English, but that they belong not to the latter but to the former half of the eighteenth century; and indeed, to the latter half of the seventeenth. So it was with that Inductive Physical Science, which helped more than all to break up the superstitions of the Ancien Regime, and to set man face to face with the facts of the universe. From England, towards the end of the seventeent...
