Are you tired of Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys cranking out nauseating bubble gum to America's airwaves? Getting a little peeved by angry alternative music that makes you want to kick the nearest innocent bystander? What you need is some fresh, original music, where lyrics are actually interesting and the sound is anything but commercialized.

Delivering just what you may need is a fun, independent band straight out of Chicago who call themselves the Leftovers.

The Leftovers music is best described as rock complimented by a definate country influence to form a rare treat in music. Their new CD, 57 to Nowhere, was released on April 19, 2001 with 10 original songs by the band that range from a good dose of honkey tonk to pure rock and roll. From the lead track, Rodeo Bullfighter to the accoustic melody of Causing Cofusion completing the album, each song is cleaver both musically and lyrically. The full length CD is peppered with all of the good things in life worth singing about--love, women and plenty of booze.

The Leftovers consist of four Chicago natives. Frontman Tim Moran does most of the vocal work as well as some guitar playing. He is joined by Rodney Allott, bass player who lends a deep, resonating voice not only to back up but also adds a nice change by singing lead on the song Light In Charleston. Additional vocals along with the responsibility of lead guitar go to Mark Petranek, whom has been with the band for a year now, while Tom Weselak takes care of the drums.

Although the Leftovers consider Chicago home, the band relocated for two years to the Tempe, Arizona music scene whick has helped fuel the bands love and direct influence in music flavored with southwestern style from bands like the now defunct Refreshments and the current Phoneix area favorites, The Peacemakers.

Having returned from the desert, The Leftovers are currently playing around Chicagoland and promoting their new album. CD's are available through their web site at www.chicagoleftovers.com or at shows. For more information on future gigs, log onto the bands website and click on shows.

The Leftovers, as with many bands, are best heard live where the charisma of the band really comes through. They combine a playlist consisting of their original tunes as well as covers ranging from Steve Earle, the Refreshments and Tim McGraw to Tom Petty, Stroke 9 and even a little bit of Bon Jovi's Dead or Alive if Moran has an Irish Car Bomb or too much tequila before the end of the night.

So leave your home without the fear of being consumed by what big wig music moguels think you should enjoy and discover one of the many great local independent bands. Bring your friends, forget Britney Spears and get ready to tap your toes and do some shots of tequila along with The Leftovers.

This artist has a talent for songwriting that is comparable to artists like James Taylor and John Denver. The tracks on this album range from angst ridden ballads to loved filled lullabys with a couple of upbeat tunes as well. This artist displays a deep appreciation for the people and places around him. I foresee this album being the door opener for this up and coming young singer/songwriter.
