 Kids' Stuff: Toys and the Changing World of American Childhood $29.00 Ok, it's a book about toys, it should be fun, right? Not with Cross. He takes an interesting topic and rips any shred of joy, wonder, or positive engagement away. It's a boring, lifeless, dispassionate book. The theories are obvious -- girls who play w/ barbies learn to be materialistic women, boys are taught to be "men" by playing with blocks and tools. yawn. Better books out there.  Alex Toys Scrap N' Stuff Umbrella $27.99 I love the concept of this thing, but it comes caked in a white dust from the vinyl that's nearly impossible to clean out of the nooks and crannies of the inner pockets (don't know how you could see your photos otherwise.) Also, it's poorly constructed with cheap plastic so I cannot see how it could withstand wear and tear from a child. Fortunately, I'm using it for a display. But I am disappointed, to be sure. Especially at this price.  Orb Factory Sticky Mosaics: Jewelry Box $14.99 I bought this for my daughter for her 5th birthday and she absolutely loved it! Sure I had to help her with some of it but she really enjoyed putting it together and loves the finished product! The stickers are pretty easy for 5 year old fingers to handle and while they adhere nicely you can also take them off if you need to reposition them. Additionally, there are enough extra stickers in case some are lost or misplaced. |
